Traditions. We all have them in some form.
One of those traditions for us is the presentation of the Karen A. Kenworthy Servant’s Heart Award. At Good Sam, we are all about giving value to people and honoring those who are important to our organization. Karen was one of those people. She had a heart for service and was the visionary behind our annual Taste of Phoenixville event, which invites people to take part in a delicious event featuring amazingly creative cuisine, an incredible silent auction, live music, complimentary local wine and beer, and a surprise or two!
Every year, a friend of GSS is selected to receive this award. This is a friend who most exemplifies a spirit of service, partnership, and generosity. This years recipient was Jan Mest! Jan is a longtime volunteer and friend of Good Samaritan Services, and has volunteered on the Taste of Phoenixville committee every year since the event began, 17 years ago! She shares, “To have a “Servant’s heart” to me means to show compassion to my fellow man, and to offer help and hope to those less fortunate than myself, whether it be a financial, health, or mental stability need.”
She continues, “Good Sam has been providing the necessary basics of shelter and food that we all take for granted, to the needy men in our community for years, but I especially love the organization for the mentoring and continued support given to help the person attain better fulfillment in their life. Now that Good Sam has been able to spread their services to women and children, it makes it all the better.”
We are grateful to you, Jan, for your years of service and commitment to Good Sam!
