On November 13th, 2019, 8 single mothers’ lives were changed after completing the Good Samaritan Services’ Job Training Program.
Job Training Program
For ten weeks, a class of our female program participants met every Tuesday to learn practical employment skills.
These skills include:
- Interview skills
- Managing wages
- Creating a public profile on LinkedIn
- Creating a dynamic resume
- Basic computer skills
- Understanding their personal strengths
A program coordinator taught our job training classes, arranged trips to local employers, and brought in influential guest speakers. Within the program, students participated in mock interviews with some of the community’s finest hiring talent. Upon the completion of the Job Training Program, each student received a stipend to assist them in pursuing employment.
Allan Myers Inc. has been a generous partner with Good Sam over the years. They are often providing in extraordinary ways for both our individual and family participants. Their involvement ranges from major financial sponsorships to hand-delivering turkey dinners to our shelters. While they are heavily involved with Good Sam, they also support numerous other organizations. Their impact on the community stretches far and wide. It’s no wonder that the Philadelphia Business Journal named Allan Myers Inc. as one of the top family-owned businesses in Philadelphia!
An Incredible Surprise
At the end of our ten-week program, Good Sam holds a small graduation ceremony to celebrate the students’ success. After a shared meal, Nate Hoffer, our CEO, gives a short speech followed by a certificate presentation by our job training coordinator. At this particular ceremony, we had a couple of unannounced guest speakers. Seth Myers and Valerie Moffson from Allan Myers Inc. came to give their congratulations as well as presenting to the graduates a surprise gift!
During their speech, they announced Allan Myers Inc. would be donating funds to pay for 6 months of childcare for each of the participants. Applause exploded! Their generous gift will provide these single mothers the opportunity to save for housing, school, medical, and other major expenses. We are so thankful for their support of these women, families, and Good Sam as an organization.
It is because of partnerships like this that we are able to go above and beyond for our participants. We’re in the business of transforming lives!
